i hate twilight

Seriously, can the Twilight series even be categorized as good reading material? It's basically poorly written fan fiction with a penchant for subversive sexploitation disguised as innocent flirting between two teenagers (well, one of them is). Add to that its dry narration, sappy dialogue, and poor character development all wrapped into a compilation of scenes with practically no plot whatsoever.
The main tension was just that Edward and Bella couldn’t be together because Dracula here didn’t want to “condemn her to a life of emptiness”. Introducing Jacob and the badass bloodsuckers were only to provide a venue for them to finally consummate their repressed love. Come on, I knew all along they were going to end up together from the first book alone; why write 3 more fanfics describing how perfect Edward and Bella were for each other?
My 11-year old sister got caught up with it (understandably) and kept whining one morning about why I wouldn’t let her read Twilight. I told her, “I’ll let you read it when you’re older. I don’t think it’s good reading material for your age.” My sister sulkily replied, “Then what is?”
Ohmygawd, I would’ve exploded right then and there, but I remembered I was running late so I just gave her the evil eye. She is at an impressionable age and I’d hate for her to grow up having all the lame-ass ideas the Twilight series has.
While it speaks of eternal affection and friendship, one cannot ignore the hedonistic theme the series screams. “I’ll do what I want because it feels right.” Bella is an insolent daughter who is whiny, selfish, makes such stupid decisions, and is frigid to people who don’t interest her, not to mention that she begs Edward for sex practically all the time, especially in Eclipse.
Edward, on the other hand, I believe is NOT perfect because he’s blatantly described as such. He’s perfectly flat and that is his effing flaw. He is gushed at by Bella constantly, that the reader is brainwashed into thinking that Edward is really “all that”. For all we know, he could be a schizophrenic hobo who downs cocaine just for the masochistic fun of it.
I don’t mean to crush any girl’s heart, but it would be really difficult for her to find a guy like Edward, as most tweens, teenagers, & even grown women I’ve met who have passionately expressed their love for this 108-year-old boy, are now looking for. They have set the standards of looking for a potential lover so high, that it is no surprise why some guys are doubting themselves at the expense of a mere caricature. They’re competing against “the Edward Cullen” *insert dreamy sigh here*. Sad, yet hilarious to some extent.
When Edward broke up with Bella in New Moon, the latter just about deteriorated. Whenever I remember how lifeless she became without Edward, I’d hate it how so many girls have became so sold to the idea that in the event that she and her lover call it over, her world has to fall apart. Come on, it’s the 21st century! Stephenie Meyer set the books in contemporary times, why create a new generation of Stepford Wives?

Furthermore, Bella speaks so little of herself, especially when she’s with Edward (i.e., all the time). It was amusing at first to observe how insecure she is about herself, but got increasingly annoying as her self-inflicted blows to her self-esteem progressively intensified in the books.
“The contrast between the two of us was painful. He looked like a god.
I looked very average, even for a human, almost shamefully plain.”
I looked very average, even for a human, almost shamefully plain.”
What is the matter with this girl?! She’s given everything to this guy already—her heart, her mind, and most importantly, her time—her limited existence. If it didn’t work out for them, I am doubtlessly certain that Bella would spend the rest of her "life" dying everyday. She has allowed this obsession to strip away her dignity, such that to the one thing that Edward did not have power over, she readily compromised for by always telling him her thoughts. “You’re a god; I am not. You’re everything I want…what did I ever do to deserve you?” GAHHHD.
I am writing this entry to inform you, IKLR subscribers, of what a travesty of love the Twilight series is. While I don’t claim to be a love guru, I'm not dense enough to not realize and point out that something is terribly wrong in Edward and Bella’s notion of love. It’s so unreal, and I’m not even talking about the vampire aspect here.
One shouldn’t push the other down, or beat oneself up to a pulp for being “undeserving” of the other’s love. While one remains insecure, both won’t mature together.
I hope you realize that while the books are entertaining, they are in no means capable of lending any new and lasting values to the reader (except those of which we already know and have been explored better in other material); they even advocate a kind of “suicide” in order to dull the emptiness of life itself!
Honestly. What more is there to say that the Twilight books fail to realize how much of a bigger concept love is than the sick obsession Edward and Bella have for each other?
